Table Talk - Spring for Results
April – The Results Month
With full force, we are surging forward with our publishing and marketing/PR divisions. To be successful for our clients and our company, we MUST focus on driving results. Therefore, we have declared April as “Results Month” to give us a powerful launch to the spring season. We’re zeroing in on attracting media, getting book reviews, and building social networks online to create a steady buzz for these exciting book projects. In recent months, you’ve seen tremendous activity around here—and it’s only going to get busier. With more and more clients investing in our marketing and public relations programs, we are focusing on delivering exceptional RESULTS! We’ll check in next month with our report card. In the meantime, read on to learn all of the amazing things our clients are doing: for their communities, for their readers, for the world..
Barrio is on the launch pad.
We are getting ready to roll out the red carpet—literally—for the launch of From the Barrio to the Board Room. Authors Robert Renteria Jr. and Corey Blake are preparing for an April 25 event in Aurora, IL, to celebrate the publication (www.fromthebarrio.com). Community leaders, including the mayor, are expected to join the duo at the gala, which will also raise money for Hesed House, an organization that is putting tremendous effort into ending homelessness in the Fox Valley region of Illinois. We are seeking donations for the food drive and silent auction. Members of the Round Table network and supporters of Robert have donated both items and services to be auctioned off, so please let us know if you would like to contribute in some way. We also have sponsorship opportunities if you and/or your business would like to reach out to an impressive community in the Chicago area. Contact Sue (sue@writersoftheroundtable.com) for details.
China Girl is headed to America
The number “8” is considered prosperous in the Chinese culture so, of course, Sophie Mokhtari’s novel, China Girl, will be released on 8/8/08!The novel takes readers on a journey with two daughters who leave a culture that demands their silence to begin new lives in America; one to escape her mistake, and one to suffer being the mistake itself. Sophie has hired Writers of the Round Table to spearhead an aggressive marketing/PR campaign to ensure that China Girl gets in the hands of women who will find inspiration, solace, and strength in this story. China Girl is the first installment in Sophie’s “Lemonade Series” and Sophie expects to begin work on the second book with us this June. Click here for a preview of China Girl.
Duckey will take flight
Our forthcoming children’s book Duckey and the Ocean Protectors, is a lively story of an animal corps bonding together to save the ocean from human polluters. Author John Sexton, who is using this book as a launching pad for a new path in life, says the story began for him while he was stationed with the Air Force in Okinawa, Japan, an island bordered by the China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. He mulled over the idea for close to ten years before bringing it to The Table. Soon, you’ll be getting a sneak preview of these characters, which include a gentle killer whale, a very hip otter, a decked-out dolphin, a sassy seagull, and a roving reporter named Duckey. Stay tuned for details...

Gather ‘Round Our Table
From time to time, we need to reach out to our growing network to assist in our book development and publishing efforts. Here are current opportunities to take a seat at the Round Table. We need:

  • Parents, educators, and others who purchase children’s books or read to youngsters for Duckey and the Ocean Protectors. You will need to read the manuscript and provide responses to some questions. This is a volunteer project.
  • Teenage girls and young mothers to read China Girl and provide input for a focus group. Small stipend available.
  • Facebook/MySpace expert who is well-versed in how these social networks function. We’re looking for someone who will be excited to help us build a community around our books. Payment to be discussed.

Catching up with Corey
In a few days, I’ll be heading to the Missouri Writers Guild Conference where I’ll be delivering the keynote address, “Writing with Meaning: How to Start Writing Your Most Important Story”. During the three-day conference, I’ll also be teaching a master class on “Infusing Your Core Values Into Your Writing”. My goal with both of these is to engage the audience in realizing their potential and discovering what their writing can achieve if they think BIG!
